Oaklands House residents enjoyed the Caraway Easter Church Service, held via Zoom in our cinema room, and hosted by Erica, the Chaplain of Southampton.
The Service included Reflections and Readings, some of which were read by Parishioners, Hymns and Prayers. The Hymns included “There is a Green Hill Far Away”, “Jesus Christ is Risen Today, Hallelujah”, and “Thine Be The Glory, Risen Conquering Son”.
During the service, the Chaplain showed pictures of Jerusalem and The Garden of Gethsemane. Gethsemane is a garden at the foot of the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem where, according to the four Gospels of the New Testament, Jesus underwent agony in the garden and was arrested before his crucifixion. It is a place of great resonance in Christianity. Other pictures shown included The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, which is thought to be on the site where Jesus was crucified, and a garden tomb in Jerusalem like the one Jesus would have been entombed in.
The last part of the service encouraged us to recite The Lord’s Prayer together. All the residents in the group involved found the service to be interesting and informative and singing the hymns uplifting.
