Encompassing world art day, and the Grand National Oaklands House residents got into the spirit of the horse. Some chose to make collages, whilst others chose to follow numbers to create horse pictures or add colour to pictures. A creative act such as crafting can have calming effects on the brain. Creativity reduces anxiety, depression, and stress.
All residents that wished to take part in the Grand National were given the opportunity to randomly pick a horse and join in the excitement of the race. Whilst residents in their rooms watched on their televisions, others joined together in the cinema room to watch the race on the big screen. Some of the ladies helped to create a lovely race day atmosphere by adorning posh hats for the occasion.
After a short delay, the race began residents cheered for their horses to encourage them along, as is usual with the Grand National, many of the horses failed to finish but our first, second and third place winners were very happy and pleased to receive their prizes. A lovely day was had by all involved!
