Dignity Action Day was celebrated at Oaklands House Care Centre, Allington Lane in Southampton this year, when they held a Digni-tea event, where residents, staff, families and friends of the home had the opportunity to post individual messages on the Digni-tree sharing what dignity meant to them.
Lead by Activity coordinator Wendy, people shared their thoughts in a discussion group and then wrote down statements on a chosen apple and hung on the digni-tree, for all to read.
This was followed by a musical extravaganza! Songs through the decades from the 40’s, to the 60’s, were enjoyed and guests at the event had the chance to play a musical instrument or join in with a simple sing along.
The day was spectacularly concluded when Chef Sarah presented the home with a wonderful Dignity cake, made with her own fair hands. One resident said, “it’s been a lovely day and a slice of Sarah’s homemade cake and a cup of tea, is the perfect way of finishing the party.”
