Pride Picnic

On Tuesday 20th June, Kings Lodge Nursing Home held a pride picnic for all our residents and their families, we combined national picnic day and pride month into one, to have one big celebration that everyone could enjoy. The staff and residents enjoyed dressing up in all colours of the rainbow and were thrilled when Alice came in to sing for us. Alice regularly sings at Kings Lodge and is loved by the residents and families; we were pleased she was able to join us for the joyous occasion and sing for our lovely residents.

Although the weather wasn’t exactly what we had hoped for, we still had a lovely day. Were able to still enjoy the music inside in our ground floor lounge and were able to take some beautiful photos outside under our rainbow balloon arch, which was hand constructed by our activities team.

Before our pride picnic commenced, we were joined by Father Andrew for our church service, where our residents enjoyed singing hymns and were very grateful for the service done by Father Andrew. Our residents enjoy our fortnightly service from Father Andrew, lots of our residents look forward it and especially enjoy it when they can sing hymns.

Over the week, in preparation for our picnic, our residents enjoyed creating rainbow decorations to hang up in our lounges and garden for everyone to see. Our residents love creating decorations and paintings for everyone to enjoy and make our home colourful, one of these decorations included our butterfly wings which was covered in rainbow handprints of the residents and staff, they looked beautiful hung up in our corridor.

During the picnic, residents relished in fresh berries, cakes, tarts, milkshakes, and ice creams. They had a real treat and were glad to have something different. It reminded them of having picnics in the past with their parents or their own children and were pleased to experience those feelings again.

One of their favourite parts about the day was our bubble machine, the residents, and their families, who enjoyed trying to catch the bubbles and pop them before they hit the floor. It was lovely to see everyone come together to have fun on this amazing day and see everyone chatting and enjoying the party together. Everyone had great fun singing along and having a little dance before enjoying their food. It was a joyous day, and lots of amazing memories were made.
