Burns Night was celebrated in style at Oaklands House Care Centre for our Family and Friends sing-along, using many Scottish artists. Song sheets and musical instruments accompanied the afternoon, as everyone sang, clapped, and shared the enjoyment of music.
The room was buzzing as residents, families and staff joined together for this celebratory afternoon of Robert Burns, also known as Rabbie Burns, a famous Scottish national poet and lyricist. It was heart-warming to see the smiles and happiness’ singing and music brings to our Oaklands community.
Alongside our sing-along we celebrated a special birthday occasion with gifts and cards for our dear resident John. He was joined by his closest friends as the room erupted in a voluminous version of “happy birthday”. John kindly shared his birthday cake amongst our Oaklands family.
Our Burns Night continued with a splendid supper featuring a delightful spread, including haggis, neeps, and tatties, which was a first for some of our residents, except for Scottish born and bred resident Betty – all rounded off with a traditional clootie dumpling dessert, which was enjoyed by everyone!
