Stowford House Celebrates ‘VE’ Day!

The 8th of May 1945 is still in the memory of all those who witnessed and lived it.

Stowford House Care Home decided to celebrate this important day in a special way for our Residents & their families.

We decorated the Ground Floor Lounge and Garden with Union Jack flags, photos of Winston Churchill, and balloons. We decided to have a tea party & to make it that little bit extra special we invited some members of the British Army to join us. It was a beautiful day had by all parties, followed by big smiles and feelings of appreciation. The soldiers and residents spent a lot of time chatting over tea and delicious cupcakes baked by our amazing kitchen team.

In 1947, it was announced that all able-bodied men between the ages of 18 and 30 were to be called up for National Service. Many of our residents are proud of their time in the Army and enjoyed talking about how they personally served their country. It was an emotional day and we finished off with 2 minutes of silence and photographs with the Soldiers.

We are lucky to now live in a country free from war, and we have to thank all who fought for that freedom with their hearts, minds, and lives. We certainly managed to celebrate this together.
