Albany Lodge Nursing Home is proud to introduce our newly established Memory Garden, a serene haven carefully designed with the input and enthusiasm of our residents. This project reflects our commitment to creating a nurturing and contemplative environment that honours the memories of our community members.
A Resident-Led Initiative
The concept of the Memory Garden originated from our residents, who desired a tranquil space for reflection. They engaged in thoughtful discussions about what they wanted to cultivate, ultimately deciding on a mix of herbs, vegetables, and rose bushes. The inclusion of rose bushes was particularly poignant, serving as a living tribute to the cherished friends we have recently lost at Albany Lodge.
Hands-On Participation
The planting process was a collaborative effort. Residents actively participated in sowing the seeds and planting the initial greenery. Our community spirit was further enriched by contributions from visiting families, who generously donated additional plants. While the garden is still in its infancy, with some seedlings not yet ready for planting, there is a shared understanding that it will grow and flourish with time.
Nurturing and Maintenance
To ensure the garden’s continued development, we have initiated a daily garden club. This club involves residents in routine tasks such as watering, weeding, and removing dead flowers. These activities not only keep the garden looking its best but also provide a sense of purpose and engagement for our residents.
