A Journey Through Sound: Sensory Experience at Brook House Nursing Home

At Brook House Nursing Home, we recognise the profound impact that sensory experiences have on our residents, especially those living with dementia. Sensory activities—whether through smell, sound, sight, touch, or taste—help our residents reconnect with their environment, evoke cherished memories, and express their unique individuality.

In a recent sensory session, we focused on audio therapy, where residents listened to the calming sounds of nature. For Frederick, it was a nostalgic journey back to his childhood walks in the woods, surrounded by birdsong and the peaceful rustling of leaves. The experience brought him a sense of freedom, and it was heartwarming to witness his positive response.

Similarly, Beryl shared vivid memories of walking with her family through the woods, a reminder of how deeply sound can connect us to the past.

Sensory activities like these not only provide therapeutic benefits but also bring joy and comfort, making every day at Brook House a little brighter for our residents.
