A Joyful Afternoon of Music at Oaklands House Care Home

At Oaklands House Care Home, we are always looking for ways to bring joy and excitement to our residents, and this week was no exception! We were delighted to welcome back the wonderful Amanda Parsons, who returned once again to lift our spirits with her lively and engaging performance.

Amanda has been a cherished visitor at Oaklands for the past six years, and her presence is always eagerly anticipated. Her warm personality, coupled with her unique and powerful voice, creates an atmosphere that our residents truly love. She knows just how to get everyone involved, whether it’s clapping along to the beat or joining in to sing their favourite songs from days gone by. There’s always laughter, smiles, and an undeniable energy in the room whenever Amanda performs.

But music is much more than just a source of entertainment for our residents. Studies show that music and singing bring a wide range of benefits, especially for older adults, including those living in care homes. Regular musical activities can:

  • Reduce anxiety and depression, offering a sense of calm and positivity
  • Stimulate memories and emotional connections, often triggering joyous reminiscence
  • Improve speech and language skills, especially for those who may have difficulty communicating
  • Boost overall wellbeing, bringing a sense of fulfilment and connection to the community

The impact of Amanda’s performance was evident from the smiles on every face and the sense of togetherness in the room. Whether it was a lively singalong or a gentle moment of reflection, her music resonated deeply with everyone present.

We are incredibly grateful to Amanda for sharing her talents with us and for continuing to make such a meaningful difference in the lives of our residents. We can’t wait to welcome her back soon for another unforgettable afternoon!
