Celebrating National Poetry Day at Southborough Nursing Home

Southborough Nursing Home had the pleasure of celebrating National Poetry Day in a truly special way. Our dear resident, Barbara, treated us all to a heartwarming reading of Spike Milligan’s delightful poem ‘Smile.’ Her thoughtful choice of poem reminded us of the simple yet powerful impact a smile can have in brightening someone’s day. 😊

Poetry holds a unique power to connect us, and during Barbara’s reading, we saw just how deeply words can resonate with our residents and staff. As she read aloud, smiles filled the room, and there was a sense of togetherness that only moments like this can create. Spike Milligan’s lighthearted yet meaningful words were a perfect choice, reminding us that even the smallest gestures can have a big impact on someone’s life.

At Southborough, we believe in creating moments that bring joy, foster reflection, and encourage connection—and poetry is one of the many ways we do this. Barbara’s beautiful reading not only showcased the joy of words but also reminded us of the happiness we can spread by simply sharing them with one another.

We’re incredibly grateful to Barbara for her inspiring reading and for bringing smiles to all of us today. Let’s take this opportunity to reflect on the beauty of poetry and the positive impact of sharing it with others.
