Enhancing Well-Being Through Sensory Activities at Oaklands House Care Centre

At Oaklands House Care Centre, we are committed to enriching the lives of our residents through therapeutic and meaningful activities. Recently, residents Margaret and Christine enjoyed a serene and comforting experience as part of our sensory activities programme, designed especially for individuals living with dementia.

Dementia can have a profound impact on daily life, but we have seen how sensory activities can significantly improve well-being. By engaging the senses—touch, smell, taste, sight, and sound—these activities help calm agitation, reduce anxiety, and promote relaxation.

One of our key offerings is sensory hand massages, which take place in our beautiful Namaste room. The tranquil setting, with its soft candlelight, twinkling ceiling lights, and calming lavender scent, provides the perfect atmosphere for relaxation. Accompanied by soothing music, the experience is not only enjoyable but also deeply beneficial.

These sensory experiences go beyond relaxation—they foster reminiscence, encourage communication, and provide a space for emotional expression. The positive impact on mood, social interaction, and overall quality of life is undeniable, and we are proud to continue offering activities that enhance the well-being of our residents.

At Oaklands House, we believe in creating moments of comfort and joy, supporting our residents in living fulfilling lives every day.
