Oaklands welcomed Brenda and her assistant from Saint James’s Church in West End for our harvest festival service. Residents enjoyed joining in with the prayers and hymns, and listening to readings. Brenda gave an explanation of the purpose of the harvest festival, where people would typically take food to the church to be shared amongst those that are in need. Brenda showed some of the typical vegetables, grown by the farmers in the UK that use to be given to the church and some more exotic examples from abroad. Nowadays tins and dry goods are donated instead. All involved enjoyed the service.
