On a recent trip to Croydon we visited the art gallery housed in the clock Tower building, where some of the residents and team at Cedar View Care Centre were fortunate to meet local artist Pins.
On display was a photographic portrait of Stormzy and his mother which is on loan from the national gallery, it is titled ‘Coming Home’. Stormzy is a Croydonian and as Pins is also from Croydon he was asked to create an installation around the portrait. His idea was to create a living room effect and a brick house. The display is interactive and Pins personally invited our residents to write on a brick what home meant to them which was added to the installation. The residents enjoyed talking to Pins and upon returning to Cedar View, we recreated a display similar to his idea of coming home and what it meant to us.
We shared this display with Pins and he asked if he could visit to view the display and chat with our residents. Pins was awed by the display the residents made, and he a Q&A session whereby residents asked about his art background and inspiration. He also ran a sketching session and shared some of his art with us. What came across was how passionately he believes in art being for everyone, how much he loves his community and the therapeutic benefits of art.
