National Sandwich Day

The History of the Sandwich. National Sandwich Day celebrates John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich’s ingenious invention in the 18th century. Legend has it he requested his meat between bread slices to keep his fingers clean while gambling, birthing the modern sandwich.

The concept of placing ingredients between bread slices has evolved into a culinary sensation enjoyed across cultures. From classic BLTs to hearty sandwiches and creative veggie wraps, they offer endless variations. National Sandwich Day celebrates this versatility.

At Oaklands House Care Centre, our residents celebrated by making their favourite sandwiches in our Vintage Café. They chose fillings, buttered their bread, and cut their sandwiches into triangles. It was a delightful afternoon filled with shared stories and smiles.
