Oaklands residents enjoyed a reminiscence afternoon which brought a lot of chatter, laughter, discussions and many memories. Lots of memorabilia were displayed for everyone to look through. Photos, old newspapers, cooking items, childhood games such as a spinning top and cat’s cradle, knitting patterns and much more. One of our residents Rose told us that she used to knit a lot of clothing and showed us one she is working on. Reminiscing is a great way for our residents to express themselves through their past, it restores their sense of self and belonging, plus, sharing the past helps them reflect on their achievements and appreciate what they have done.
